It would be too much
If loss only entailed
The loss of one loved.

But the loss of one loved
Entails the loss of so much more:

A certain presence,
A childhood,
A growing,
A history,
A home,
A library of memories and phrases and tones
And quirks and favorites and habits,
A haven of belonging,
A piece of your very existence…

It’s never a loss of one person.
It’s the loss of a whole, singular, 
Forever unduplicated universe
In one person.
