TEXT

We were not made for sorrow.
We were not made for loss.
We were not made for long goodbyes,
In heaven or on earth.

We were not made for mourning.
We were not made for grief.
We were not made to lose pieces of us
And then just go on living.

We were not made to witness
The tearing apart of lives,
The separation of hearts,
The burial of our whole world.

We were not made to bear
Suffering we cannot help,
Last words and smiles and breaths,
Spreading the world’s worst news.

We were not made for death:
A lifetime in an instant.
We were not made for leaving where
We were born a miracle.

We were made to live—
Together,
Forever,
In peace
And beauty
And light
Within sight of each other.

And that is why
Loss is utterly unbearable
And heartbreak feels like death—
Because hearts weren’t made to break
And life was made to live.
